An estimated 80% of doctors need, want, and should use a financial advisor and/or investment manager. Whether a physician chooses to use an advisor temporarily or long-term, you should feel OK about doing so, as long as the advice is high-quality and fairly priced. This page features vetted, recommended firms that provide just that. More details on the vetting process are available at the bottom of the page.

The advisors/firms on this page are all paid advertisers. However, they have all passed a thorough vetting process. We required an application (see bottom of the page) that you can review to help you decide who to hire. The vetting process continues after the advisor is listed here, as white coat investors who use their services let us know about their positive and negative experiences.
Why is there a fee to be listed here? There are two main reasons:
While there are many good advisors and reputable firms, no advisor is perfect, and determining who is listed on this page is one of the most challenging aspects of maintaining this resource. Even some well-above-average advisors have been turned down. In fact, the majority of those who apply to advertise here are not accepted.
Financial planning and investment management are significant services, and it’s reasonable to expect to pay thousands of dollars per year for them. That said, many of the advisors listed on this page represent some of the most affordable options available.
Many readers ask about the best way to choose an advisor from this list. Rest assured, there are no poor choices here. Every advisor listed has been vetted, and they provide good advice at a fair price.
The first 10 firms are featured in premium listings, meaning they’ve paid for enhanced visibility and additional listing features. This placement does not imply endorsement over the other firms—all listed advisors have passed the same vetting process.
Unlike one-time transactions—such as buying insurance, refinancing student loans, or reviewing a contract—financial planning and investment management are ongoing, personalized services. While some advisors on this page offer one-time consultations or hourly services, most focus on building long-term relationships to help clients achieve their financial goals. For that reason, finding a good personal fit is essential.
Read through each firm’s description, identify a few that match your needs, and spend time exploring their websites. Review the linked application forms. If a firm’s approach resonates, reach out by email or phone to schedule a virtual or in-person meeting. All listed advisors can work with clients in any US state. Here’s a list of questions you may want to ask them.
Feedback about particularly positive or negative experiences is welcome, and it may be used to improve this resource.
There are four main methods of paying for financial advice, and some advisors use two, three, or even all four methods.
Preferred methods of paying for financial advice include flat annual fees (typically for investment management) and hourly fees (often for financial planning). At lower asset levels, an advisor charging Assets Under Management (AUM) fees may actually be more cost-effective than one with a flat annual retainer.
Most flat fees listed here fall in the $5,000-$15,000 range, though there's considerable variation. It's perfectly reasonable (and often beneficial early on) to work with an advisor who charges based on AUM. However, it’s important to reevaluate the cost each year to ensure you're still getting good value.
As assets grow, clients can often receive equally high-quality advice at a lower cost by transitioning to an advisor who charges flat annual or hourly fees.
Fill out the Advertising Partner Application. Contact the Director of Sales at [email protected] with any questions. Expect the application to be available to readers if you are approved and purchase a listing. We'll get back to you with an approval decision and pricing.
