The Resident Champions Program has one goal: to put The White Coat Investor’s Guide for Residents into the hands of every first-year medical or dental resident in the US.
The financial habits and education built during residency determine how well these professionals handle the most important financial transition of their career: the jump to an attending paycheck. The right information at the right moment can be worth millions of dollars over the course of a career. We’re on a mission to make sure residents have it, and we hope you can help.
Rather than shipping books to individual residents, we enlist a volunteer “Champion” from the PGY-1 class of every eligible residency program in the US to distribute books to their cohort. The Resident Champions Program runs annually. Sign up for our free monthly newsletter to make sure you don’t miss the announcement.
The Champion role is straightforward. Here’s what you do:
If you sign up to be a WCI Resident Champion, you receive:
BONUS — Send us a photo of your fellow residents with their books and we’ll send you a WCI-branded water bottle.

Programs must be ACGME or CODA-accredited residency programs physically located in the US.
We only accept one Champion per resident class. If your program is already listed on the application, a colleague has applied and has been selected.
Programs must be in-person. Because books are distributed, programs that never physically meet as a group are not eligible.
This is only for PGY-1s. No exceptions. If your program didn’t participate during your intern year and you’d like a copy, The White Coat Investor’s Guide for Residents is available on Amazon.
The White Coat Investor’s Guide for Residents was written specifically for physicians at the start of their training. Residency is the window to build the financial foundation that makes the attending transition work. This book covers what residents actually need to know: managing student loans, understanding your first contract, building a savings habit on a resident salary, and preparing for the financial surge that comes with an attending paycheck.
The main theme: the decisions you make during residency determine how fast you build wealth as an attending. Start now.

Our goal each year is to distribute books to 90% or more of the eligible residents in the country. We haven’t reached that number yet, so please help us by volunteering to be a WCI Champion!
