Fox & Company CPAs, Inc.
Johanna Fox Turner founded Fox CPAs in 1995. Today, our team employs 16 members across seven states serving doctors remotely in 43 states. Our goal is not to be the largest firm, but to provide the best personalized services for doctors and other high-income families seeking thorough, proactive, and experienced tax and accounting services, including bookkeeping, payroll, and business consulting. As a result, we typically close to new clients from September– April each year to provide in-depth year-round advice and personalized services our clients have hired us for.
Why You?
We purposely structured many of our policies based on feedback we heard from clients (not only doctors) and prospective clients about their former tax preparer experiences. Because of this, our priorities are:
Total transparency – our advice is meant to help you make decisions that will save you money both today and in the future. For example, we will prepare a cost-benefit analysis before recommending you incorporate, and we will tell you if we don’t believe we can add value to your situation beyond what we will cost in fees.
Rapid response to questions or requests in 3-5 business days (can be up to two weeks in tax season)
No extensions unless you need to file one (we keep you abreast of deadlines for providing information throughout tax season)
Year-round advice, availability and communication tailored to your specific needs
Team continuity – we limit the number of clients to keep both you and our team members happy. As a result, we have a very high retention rate of both clients and the team members you work with. And we don’t hire part-time employees and lay them off after tax season – you expect to have access all year long and we agree. Flat fees and fair rates – we encourage you to reach out when you need help or to update us on your tax plans.
Flat fees allow us and you to stay in touch without fear of receiving additional invoices. If your situation changes, your fee may go up (or down) but you will never have an increase that you have not agreed to in advance. Our goal is not to be the highest, but we don’t aim to be the cheapest, either – if our clients are happy, we believe we’ll do just fine.
Ideal Client
Most of our clients own a business, have side-hustle income, and/or invest in real estate. We enjoy advising on the appropriate business structure, helping to set up and educate clients about tax advantaged accounts, finding business deductions they might not have considered, and ensuring compliance with IRS regulations, such as sending reminders when estimated tax payments need to be paid. Our ideal client is eager to learn, is open to honest feedback when they ask, “what do you think?” or “I heard I should do XYZ, should I?” questions and values transparency and access to good advice year-round.
Our mission is to help doctor families get appropriate, high-level tax and business advice when they need it. We realize we can’t serve everyone we meet, but we are deeply committed to helping those who seek excellence and a long-term personal relationship and value what we provide. While we absolutely love getting compliments, we also very much appreciate clients who share suggestions that help us improve our services.
Services Offered
Our firm provides year-round tax planning, strategy, and preparation services, bookkeeping and payroll (including training for clients who want to be involved) and business consultation. Services at Fox CPA are an all-inclusive flat fee monthly subscription service. Your FPA (Fixed Payment Agreement) includes tax strategy/Q&A’s whenever you reach out, mid-year and year-end tax projections and planning sessions, and, of course, federal/state/local tax filing. FPAs also cover tax audits, responses to state and federal notices (we stay on hold with the government, so you don’t have to!), and amended filing for any returns prepared by the firm.
Experience and Designations
Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), Laura Clifford and Johanna Turner lead our team. Laura has held her CPA since 2015, and Johanna has been in practice for more years than she’d like to say. While we have both worked with many types of clients over the years, our physician focus began in 2016 when Johanna joined WCI as a forum moderator. Since then, we have worked with hundreds of physician families and given pro-bono advice to many others. Our tax advisors include CPAs and Enrolled Agents (EAs), and we have a robust bookkeeping and payroll team, along with three client service members.
Fee Structure
After meeting with you to discuss your goals to determine if we are the right fit for each other, we will ask for a copy of your most recently filed tax return. Upon review we provide a Fixed Price Agreement that explains the services provided and the monthly cost for a year. There is no obligation as our goals are aligned with yours: to make an informed decision in pursuit of a long-term, mutually fulfilling relationship. Personal tax planning and preparation client fees are based on complexity. Business client services are based on complexity and the services needed. We developed our Tier structures to reflect common client situations so anyone interested could estimate fees in advance of scheduling a meeting.
