The White Coat Investor Champions Program began in 2020 with the goal of putting The White Coat Investor’s Guide for Students into the hands of every first-year medical and dental student. We see this program as one of the most important things we do as a company, because medical school is such an impactful time for students to become financially literate.
Even though the book is primarily focused on medical and dental students, we have expanded the program to include PA, NP, CRNA, Pharmacy, Dental, DPM and Medical/DO Schools.
How the WCI Champions Program Works
When we began this program, we quickly realized that shipping books to individual students would not be cost-effective or sustainable. Instead, we enlist a volunteer “Champion” student from the first-year class to distribute all of the books for their class.
The Champion program runs from September through February of each year. You can sign up for our free monthly newsletter to be sure you don’t miss the announcement.
Though we originally limited Champions to the first-year students in Medical and Dental schools, we expanded our program in 2023 to include those in PA, NP, and Pharmacy schools, and in 2024, we started including those in CRNA school. While the majority of our Champions come from MD programs, we really want to get this book in the bands of everybody who's just starting out in healthcare. So, if you're in DPM, Dental, PA, NP, CRNA, or Pharmacy school, please sign up and get this valuable information into the hands of your classmates.
The Champion role is quite simple. Here's all you have to do:
- Apply by the deadline (February 15, 2026) so there is time to have the books printed, shipped, and distributed before the end of the school year.
- Provide us with your mailing address.
- Have a dean or the financial aid office confirm your enrollment status and how many students are in your class by filling out a simple verification form.
- Wait for your free books to arrive and pass them out to your classmates.
If you sign up to be the WCI Champion for your class, you receive the following:
- The WCI’s Guide for Students book for you and your classmates
- A White Coat Investor T-shirt
- The pride of knowing you will be a hero to your classmates, literally making a difference worth hundreds of millions of dollars throughout their careers

Additional Rules for the Program
Schools must be Medical/DO, Dental, DPM, PA, NP, CRNA, or Pharmacy Schools.
We only accept one Champion per class. If you see your school listed on the application, someone from your school has already applied and been selected.
Schools must be in-person. Because books have to be passed out in person, online-only programs, where students only meet virtually, are not eligible.
This is only for first-year students. We will not make any exceptions to that. If your school didn’t participate during your first year and you really want a copy of the book, it's only $9.99 on Kindle and around $20 at Amazon.
The Book
The White Coat Investor's Guide for Students is Dr. Jim Dahle’s longest, most comprehensive book. It is composed of three parts: a section for students, a section for residents (especially interns), and a huge section on becoming financially literate. If you want a book that teaches you money, that third section is it. It teaches you about investments, retirement accounts, taxes, and financial history. It even teaches you the calculations that you need to know how to do. It's a great book to read now and then again as a new graduate or intern.
The main theme: don't spend money you don't have. Welcome to personal finance. While the book doesn't go into a huge amount of detail about how to invest money that students don't actually have (and the largest focus there is on stocks, bonds, and the mutual funds that contain them), it does mention 15 asset classes ranging from CDs to Beanie Babies.
Growth and Impact of the WCI Champions Program
Our goal each year is to distribute this book to 90% or more of the eligible students in the country. We haven’t reached that number yet so please help us by volunteering to be a WCI Champion!
