I got a book in the mail this week. It's called The White Coat Investor: A Doctor's Guide to Personal Finance and Investing. It's really good. Well, actually, it needs a little more work. This is the proof copy. There are some things with book formatting that are very obvious when the book is in your hand, but nearly invisible on a screen. So I had to make a few changes and order a new proof that should be here tomorrow. You know, things like page numbers on the Table of Contents. Assuming the new proof looks good, I think the book will be available on Amazon within the next week!
If you would like to be aware of when it is available for a reduced price, be sure you're signed up for the newsletter, signed up for the RSS Feed, and following me on Twitter. The Kindle version will go live the same day. I'm still trying to decide whether to make it available on Nook and Ibooks right away or not. If you prefer Nook or Ibook ebooks, send me an email or post a comment.
Ibook please. Heading on deployment soon and taking iPad with me
In 4 1
I will probably purchase the physical copy, but my preferred eBook is iBooks.
SO EXCITED for this book. I am contemplating asking the alumni association at my med school to buy a copy for each student in the graduating class. Come 20 years later at the reunion, the sums donated may be quite tidy – a shrewd move on the alumni association’s part.
I prefer iBooks as well. Looking forward to reading.
Awesome. Congrats. I’ve learned a lot from your site and will be buying a hardcopy as soon as available on Amazon.
Congrats! Can’t wait to read it
I will definitely buy a copy. My wife is an M3, and I think she would definitely read the book while on night call.
Congratulations, I will definitely be buying a copy. . . or getting one as a gift.
Way cool! Desperately needed. Ever thought about going on the lecture circuit?
Prefer old fashioned hard copy, looking foward to it and will look for reduced code
Great picture, I am excited for you. I plan to purchase a copy and I wish you the best with your release!
WCI,
Definitely purchasing the book. Thanks for enlightening my financial future with your blog the last two years.
All the best, and thank you!
Ibook
Awesome! I think this book will do really well.
Have you also considered selling the ebook through E-Junkie or Clickbank to get ~100% of the money vs. only 70% through Amazon?
Hadn’t considered those outlets. 70% of thousands of books is a lot more money than 100% of a dozen books. So volume matters. Many self-published authors don’t even sell with Ibooks and Nook because the numbers are so much lower than Kindle.
Looking forward to the book. This site has opened my eyes to the correct way to invest etc…
Got mine ordered
Grabbed myself a copy on Amazon!
Ordered via Kindle!
did it sell out on amazon? only the kindle version is available. Can’t wait to read…thanks
It should never sell out because it is only printed on demand. Over 200 print copies were sold in the first couple of days (which is great because I’ve already recouped my costs, minus my own labor), but I can’t see it on Amazon right now (whereas I could last night.) I’ll contact Amazon and figure out what’s going on. It says it is live on my dashboard.
Amazon says that it takes ~ 5 business days to finish constructing my page for the book and during those 5 days it is normal for it to disappear and reappear at times. Annoying, but the alternative was to wait 5 days before telling you all it was (apparently intermittently) available. I’ll keep an eye on it and keep the promotional price going a little longer if it stays down much longer. Sorry for the inconvenience.
By the way, you can buy the print version directly from Createspace here: https://www.createspace.com/4531942 I think shipping is about the same as with Amazon.
Any chance you will write a post about the process of self publishing a successful book? I would love to hear how you went about it!
Sure, but I’m not sure the process is replicable. I was lucky to have a successful blog first; most authors don’t have that benefit. Give me a few months to get some perspective.
I thought a lot of authors first start with a blog. Jaime Tardy just published her first book, The Eventual Millionaire, after blogging for a while. Todd Tressider has the Financial Mentor blog, and has subsequently published numerous books. It appears to be a good stepping stone to writing a book, since there is an established reader base already.
When I click on your photo it takes me to a page where the photo is inverted.
I look good all blown up and sideways, don’t I?
Just kidding. I relinked it to the book on Amazon lest someone else have the unfortunate situation of seeing my bad side. Thanks for the heads up.
