Yeah I’ll do COBRA for me I end up needing anything. Real Q is whether it’s worth just paying for a higher premium gold/platinum plan for my wife who will definitely need coverage (pregnant) or if I should roll the dice so to speak with a silver higher deductible plan in order to get access to an HSA and maybe save a couple hundred dollars on premiums.orthodoc2018ParticipantStatus: PhysicianPosts: 80Joined: 07/18/2018
Wanted to bump this up:
1. Child is enrolled in a state plan
2. I will elect COBRA if need be
3. My wife will definitely need a plan though. I’m weighing the pros and cons of a lower premium/higher deductible but HSA plan (her only chance to put away tax deferred money this year – will also be maxing out a Roth for her) vs. a gold or platinum plan where we pay $200-300 more per month in premium but have a limited out of pocket expense for care. While I love the thought of socking $6,750 away for her in an HSA, I dread being in a situation where we’re needing to me a $2,500-4,000 deductible when we could have just paid $400-500 more in premiums.
