Good NYT article and shows the balance. It certainly is alarmist to wave the white flag and deep six the PSLF program. It’s really hard to spin a 99.3% rejection rate. Even diving into the weeds and culling out the <10 years for all reasons, the rejection rate is alarmingly high — no way to massage that let down.
Even if this were a $1,000 program –it’s still $1,000. I’m fairly confident that anyone here was expecting a $1,000 reimbursement that failed to materialize as promised would not be very happy about it — and most of folk in this forum are way above the average Joe.
Totally hope to see improvements over the coming years. The first stab at it TEPSLF hasn’t fared well either — hence the high visibility. So the Dept of Education has taken two bites of the apple now.
