I am an employed family physician and I have a panel size of about 2200 patients.  I am full time and I am in the office 4.5 days during the week.  I have a NP in our office but other then my absences from the office (which is rare) The NP mostly covers the other part time docs.  I do have some call and hospital responsibilities as well.

I am mostly interested in other primary docs but feel free to comment if you are a specialist with a panel.  It is always interesting to get a view of another specialty.

How big is your patient panel?

What things affect your panel size?  (other responsibilities, Midlevels, part time?)

Are you still open and if so how many new patients a week?

I have heard that a typical panel for a primary doc was 2500 patients but I read elsewhere that is antiquated because a lot has changed in the past 20 years in medicine.  Of course my admin would stuff me full of as many as I allow but I am gathering ideas for a cutoff point.

    Thanks for your responses/comments!
