  • Can the car reverse park into the garage?

    Comment

    • I’ve had my Model 3 for almost 2 years now. It is the best car for me. I‘ve owned Jags and BMWs (2 right now), gmc, Toyota, Subaru and honestly the Tesla is by far the best car. It is a better car than when I bought it 2 years ago due to all the updates and refinement in software - name one car that does that?

I have the full sell driving package and I can tell you commutes are a breeze. It is no longer such a big deal. It takes over when ever I want it to and I have instant control of it, if I want it.
      1) in sane acceleration - awesome fun to drive (caveat, it doesn’t beat my BMW M3 V8 sound).
      2) never needing to go get gas
      3) electricity is super cheap (about $600 for 20,000 miles of driving so far)
      4) no need to start the car, just walk in, push brake, put on drive and just go. No keys (iPhone in bag/pocket). Think golf cart.
      5) touch screen is phenomenal. Rented 2020 BMW 535 a few weeks ago and it doesn’t even come close to Tesla’s screen. Entering destinations on the gps is so simple and intuitive on the Tesla. The software integration is awesome
      6) no real maintenance except rotate tires.
      7) so many of the things that you’d think a ‘smart car’ should be able to do, the Tesla does. Dash camera, full view of the car surrounding with recoding save features, recording last 10 minutes of what the car sees at any point, control the windows with your phone app, allow someone to get in and drive your car from anywhere with a push of your phone app, adjust the power distribution of the wheels to your liking, the car locks the wheels when you are at a stop so you dont’ have to (one pedal driving), it puts the car in park when you step out, instant adjustment of the cabin temperature from app, full viewing of YouTube videos, Netflix, hulu, video games while you wait for someone, etccc. I can keep going.

The stock price is a partial testament to how good the car is.

I don’t have the fsd option but I’ve heard you can line it up, get out, and reverse the car into a tight spot. The car really doesn’t like some garage thresholds and may refuse to go over it if there’s a distance of some sort.

As someone said, it can go in and out in a straight line and pretty close to the edges of garages. Also there is ‘advance summon’, which will come bring your car to you or you can direct it to a destination from your phone. You can even have your grand ma sit in the car and send the car to a destination - haha. Look up YouTube video. The advanced summons is only functional in closed areas - so parking lots basically. You also have to be within a short distance of the car before it will activate. It is very cool. Every time I use the feature to come and get me, people stop and look at the car. They are amazed a car can drive by itself. BEST CAR EVER.

          • Anyone have difficulty getting insurance? When my agent entered the VIN, it wouldn't process the number, now it has to go to underwriting. I also noticed a change in the tone(more snarky) of the agent when I told her what type of car it was.

Lat year I got it with Progressive. It was a bit more because they told me the parts and repair is bit more than a similar priced BMW since there is basically no aftermarket parts or labor.

              • I’m currently with progressive from geico and it wasn’t a problem at all. If they give you trouble or were snarky with you, shop around and get a better deal.

Supposedly if you don’t shop around with different insurance companies every 3 years or so you’re paying too much. Insurance companies will slowly increase your rates every year by a bit because people hate going through the work to change companies. I’ve heard they’ve done a lot of research to see how much they can increase each year while retaining customers to make more money and offset the customers they lose from increasing too much.

Do you shop around by calling companies or do you use a broker?

One - email customer support (or better yet the feedback questionaire after that encounter) and give honest feedback on it. along that you're now cross shopping other products for better service.

                    Tesla insurance not available?

I’ve had it since 2018 and there was no problem with insurance. I even showed the agent the car since he’d never seen one before.

I just did online quotes for everyone. some companies give online quote discounts, new customer discounts etc. it's so random how some companies differ from others.

                        • So I got the 14-50 adapter for the OEM Tesla charger. When plugged into m y 240 v, I only get 15 mi/hr charge with the amber flashing light. With my leaf charger+J1772 adapter, the Y gets 28 mi/hr with the green flashing light. Does that seem right?

                            Online
                            Telephone
                            Agent
You can get three different prices for the same policy. Separate distribution channels and incentives. Counter intuitive sometimes. Family auto policy was $1500 cheaper through an agent.
                            Next year it wasn’t.

The leaf chargers usually have a small dial on the back to determine how many amps it'll pull from the circuit. Ours can, and is set to pull the full 30amps. The Telsa one (gen 2) can pull 32A, and should with a 14-50 (page 6). It might... dynamically tell how large the breaker is on the circuit (Tesla web page?) ? So, no, at first glance that doesn't add up.

How big is the breaker on each circuit? Any idea what guage wire you have? Any chance it was just hot out / in the sunshine for w/ the 14-50 test charge?

Read through the Troubleshooting (page 11) for which type of light/blinking light(s) you may have.

Thanks. It's cool right now and I'm charging indoors. The circuit breaker for the car charger looks like it has 2 30 amp circuit breakers. Looking at the trouble shooting it says nothing about the amber or yellow blinking lights. I don't know what guage wire it is. Thanks for the info though.
