  • Hello everyone,

Hopefully this time my post will go through...

My name is D.K. Unger and I specialize in disability insurance for physicians/surgeons and a few other high-earning professionals. My experience has led me to believe that physicians/surgeons are best served by utilizing the various specializations within the financial industry. Similar to how all types of physicians have training in the fundamentals, I know just enough about finance in general to give basic advice. However, just as the PCP refers patients to a specialist, I always refer clients to the appropriate specialist based on their particular need. In my experience, most egregious breaches of fiduciary duty stem from an advisor attempting to do it all via their office.

I think WCI knows this, and it is one of the reasons why the companies who sponsor WCI are well-received. We look forward to sponsoring this May's newsletter just as we did the previous year.

I am excited about this new forum, as it allows me remain tuned in to the needs and concerns of physicians, especially in regards to the topic of disability insurance.

        • Hello.  Recent graduate (c.o. 2014) from pediatric dental residency. My wife is in her final year of pharmacy school.  We both graduated with a good amount of debt, but this website/book have been a blessing and hopefully has put us on the right path for financial success/independence!

          • Hi. I graduated dental school in May, bought a dental office in August. Needless to say, I have a lot of debt. But buying the practice allowed me to double my income, eventually save more for retirement, and also provides tax advantages. Plus it cashflows pretty ************************ well. Been reading the site for 3 years now. Love it! Anyone in Arkansas want/need some dental work done?

            Matt

            • My name is Chris.  I found this site a few years ago and have always appreciated the information Jim has provided.  I am not a doctor, but most of the investing advice is good no matter what you do.  Our company's niche is CDs.  I have been married for almost 24-years to my beautiful wife who I met when I was 14.  We have 6 children, ranging from 13 - 24.  Very busy and full life.

Is that a minus sign for negative net worth, or a tilde for net worth circa (positive) $300k?

                    • I'm a radiation oncologist with one year left in residency, married to a newly minted ER doc.  Finally moving the net worth needle (slowly) back toward zero with our dueling med school loans now that one of us makes a reasonable salary.  I'm always a fan of the "How much to put toward loan repayment vs. investments/retirement vs. screw it, lets vacation in Europe before we have kids" discussion.

                        • 3rd year reading the WCI, so glad I found this blog right around 2-3mo before I started my residency. Currently a resident as a PGY3 and 1 more year to go before I gain that attending status. Looking forward to paying off my debt and doing finances the WCI/Boglehead way!

                              • Hi all. I'm an immunology researcher at a private non-for-profit institute in northern New York's Adirondack Mountains. Married to an Ob/Gyn who is 3 years out of residency. Been following WCI blog for about two years, and appreciate all I've learned here. Refinanced substantial student loan debt with DRB in early 2015, and recently closed on a house with a 15 year physician's loan through Citizen One.
